Naples, as everybody knows, is a fascinating city rich in monuments and places of cultural, historical and artistic interest.
A place where history and legend often intertwine, loading even more some places of a veil of mystery and curiosity.
One of the monuments symbol of the city of Naples is undoubtedly the Maschio Angioino.
The Maschio Angioino – or Castel Nuovo – is one of the most ancient Castles of the city, of medieval and renaissance character.
The castle increases the splendor of Piazza Municipio, in addition to the artistic importance it also has an ethnic importance for the city of Naples.
The birth of the castle came when arrived the monarchy in Naples, its construction was ordered by Charles I d'Angiò, ascended the throne in 1266. During the years on that throne came several kings who changed the internal structure and more the outside of the castle, the current form arrived only in 1443 with Alfonso d'Aragona and the new Aragonese domination, beginning work of reconstruction and having built, on the outside walls, the impressive Triumphal Arch to celebrate his victorious entry into the city of Naples.
During the reign of Robert of Anjou the castle became a centre of culture giving hospitality to artists, doctors and men of letters among whom were Giotto, Petrarch and Boccaccio.
The castle is today the venue of cultural events and also houses the Municipal Museum.
I'm wearing a flared skirt with a classic blazer made more up-to-date by a pair of logo boots with a western flavor, while I relive the Aragonese history, admiring the emblem monument of the city of Parthenope.
